Ladybird Holdings is a seed funder and angel investor, set up specifically to assist businesses in their infancy through the minefield of funding, operational and strategic issues faced by all entrepreneurs as they get their business off the ground.

Ladybird is backed by wealthy individuals seeking to invest money directly into new businesses. They are not remote, detached investors; rather they have a down-to-earth, practical approach and first hand experience of setting up and running start-ups and young businesses that they can share. They in turn have a team of skilled professionals who bring specific commercial, financial, marketing and technological experience and contacts.

Persuasive research, such as that by Kerr, Lerner and Schoar of Harvard Business School, suggests that this type of angel funding can significantly improve the chances of a business flourishing, not just through the investment made, but through the mentoring and network of contacts that are also introduced.

In terms of focus, Ladybird is most interested in technology, media and entertainment sectors, whether that is B-to-B or B-to-C. Investments to date have included mobile phone apps, production for broadcast media, digital cinema software and support services, advertising agency, motion sensitive technologies for consumer applications and businesses providing software to the financial services industry.

In terms of territory, investments have been in Northern and Eastern Europe (UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, Baltic states), but Ladybird is not restricted to these regions and would make a decision on whether to invest on a case by case basis.
